QUESTION ONE (48 MARKS)
(a) Describe three characteristics that make cancer a non-communicable disease.
[6 marks]
(b) Jane has recently been diagnosed with a heart disease. Briefly mention three factors that could have predisposed Jane to the disease. [6 marks]
(c) Explain the following terms as used in the study of non-communicable diseases:
(i) Metastatic cancer. [2 marks]
(ii) Chronic health condition. [2 marks]
(iii) Muscular endurance. [2 marks]
(d) ‘Prevention is better than cure’. Explain this statement in relation to cancer.
[6 marks]
(e) Non-communicable diseases are sometimes referred to as ‘lifestyle diseases’. Justify this statement. [6 marks]
(f) Make short notes on the disease ‘dental carries’. [6 marks]
(g) By use of three examples, explain how stress can result into a non-communicable disease. [6 marks]
(h) Tobacco and substance abuse related disorders are NCD’s of concern. Briefly explain some of these disorders. [6 marks]
