i. Define: a) Medical entomology [2 marks]
b) Oviposition [2 marks]

ii. Why are entomologists interested in insect studies? [4 marks]

iii. Write short notes on soft and hard ticks. [10 marks]

iv. State medical importance of the following vectors. [2 marks each]

a) Phlebotomine sandflies
b) Black flies
c) Ticks
d) Sand fleas or jigger fleas

v. List four living elements that are necessary for transmission of arthropod-borne diseases. [4 marks]

Question Two (20 Marks)

a) i. The biology and life cycle of tsetse flies. [5 marks]

ii. Treatment of sleeping sickness. [5 marks]

b) Discuss general methods of control of arthropods. [10 marks]

Question Three (20 Marks)

Provide a detailed life cycle of mosquito, Anopheles gambiae.

Question Four (20 Marks)

By clearly describing its inception, discuss integrated vector management and control. Provide specific examples of vectors where necessary.
