SECTION A
1. Distinguish the following

2. Outline the FOUR steps of managing a disease outbreak [6 marks]
3. Name any
(a) THREE international notifiable diseases prone to epidemics [3 marks]
(b) THRE international notifiable diseases targeted for eradication [3 marks]
4. Using relevant examples describe ONE level of prevention that can be applied before the onset of disease. [6 marks]
5. Describe the mode(s) of transmission of zoonoses between animals and humans. [6 marks]
6. Briefly explain how targeting the source of disease is an important component in preventing communicable disease. [6 marks]
7. (a) Describe the transmission of HINI influenza [2 marks]

(ii) Distinguish between an outbreak and a pandemic [3 marks]
(iii) Outline the spread of cholera from an infected person to a susceptible host. [4 marks]
(iv) Explain the main clinical features of cholera [5 marks]
(v) Suppose there is an outbreak of cholera old town – Mombasa. Discuss the management of suspected / confirmed patients. [8 marks]
