**QUESTION ONE (COMPULSORY)**

a) State the following laws [8 Marks]

b) Briefly describe the following as used in physics [4 Marks]

(i) Gravitational Force

(ii) Frictional force

c) Describe the following properties of waves. Draw a neat diagram too. [8 Marks]

(i) cycle

(ii) phase

(iii) period

(iv) amplitude

d) Work out the following motion problems [10 Marks]

(i) An Electron accelerates from 3.81×105

to 4.12×105

through a 4mm gap. Find the

acceleration

(ii) An 8.5Kg mass rests on a slope that is slanting by 30o

to the ground. Calculate the

acceleration down the slope when released. Ignore friction

(iii) A 30Kg mass is raised to a height of 10m. Calculate the

III. The velocity and the KE just before it hits the ground.

IV. Compare the work done, PE and KE.

b) Give the difference between series and parallel circuits. Draw well labeled diagrams too

c) Calculate the total resistance, currents I1, I2 and I3 as well as the voltages V1 and V2 in the

diagram below. The supply is 7V. [10 Marks]

b) Differentiate between the following electricity concepts [4 Marks]

c) State Ohm’s law [2 Marks]

d) Explain the term “short circuit” and how you could detect it using a multimeter [2 Marks]

e) Define electromagnetic waves, classify these waves and hence describe the uses of these waves in

IT [8 Marks]

Explain any three mathematical relationships [6 Marks]

b) Briefly explain how energy can be transferred in waves [4 Marks]

c) A force of 200 Newton is exerted on an object of mass 40 kg that is located on a sheet of perfectly

smooth ice.

(i) Calculate the acceleration of the object. [2 Marks]

(ii) If a second object identical to the first object is placed on top of the first object, what

acceleration would the 200 Newton force produce? [2 Marks]

d) Outline two types of motion [2 Marks]
