BIT 3106 INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT

Question One
a) Identify three characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. (3 Marks)
b) Health and safety programmes aim at protecting the employees from hazards arising from their
jobs or their interactions with the organization. Using three relevant examples in each case,
explain how an IT supervisor can use the 3 E’s- engineering, education and enforcement to
prevent accidents at the work place. (12 Marks)
c) Due to increased grievances in your department, the Human Resource Director has appointed you
to a team of five ICT supervisors to look into the grievances. Research carried out by the team
reveals that the management has failed to honour an earlier agreement to review salaries and
improve the general working conditions.

Prepare a brief to your team on how to prepare themselves for the upcoming collective bargaining
meeting with the trade union. (15 Marks)

a) Conflict may be defined as any form kind of disagreement or antagonistic interaction.
Demonstrate five ways in which conflict could be beneficial to the organization. (10 Marks)
b) Explain how an effective organizational structure can assist in prevention of conflict in the
organization.
Question Three
a) Having spotted an opportunity in the ICT sector, Aaron a computer science graduate wishes to
integrate ICT in agribusiness by linking farmers to their customers through e commerce.
Infrastructure and operational costs are estimated at sh 3 million for the first three years.
Currently , Aaron has sh. 500,000( own savings and contributions from family members).
Explain to Aaron five viable sources of funds for his proposed business. Give at least one
advantage and one disadvantage of each source of funding. (10 Marks)
b) Recommend three criteria that Aaron can use to determine the most appropriate source. (6 Marks)
c) Recommend the best location for Aaron’s business and justify your choice of location (4 Marks)
