Q1. Rewrite the following sentences to be in active voice

Q2. Arrange the following information correctly using APA style of documentation.

ii) A 3 rd edition of a book edited by Elizabeth Andeyo. The book is entitled Academic Day. It
was published by Longhorn Publishers in Nairobi. The year of publication is 2004.
iii) A book written by Kenya Instituted of Education in 2001 and published by Government
Printers and has the title English Hand Book for Teachers. The town of publication is Nairobi.
iv) A 10 th edition of a book written by S.J. Hopkins with the title Drugs and Pharmacology for
nurses. It was published by Churchill Livingstone in 1989 at Melbourne.
v) An article written by Charles Otieno. It appeared in the Sunday Nation. The month of May 23
rd . The title of the article is Enforce Smoking Ban. It is on page 12. The year it appeared in the
newspaper is 2006.

Q3. Write a feature article of 250-300 words on preparing for retirement. Include in your article
the following aspects: –
i) Financial planning
ii) Developing hobbies
iii) Health and fitness
iv) Voluntary work
Q4. You have been assigned the task of writing a news article concerning imported
contraband sugar. The following is a summary of the findings:
a) An analysis carried out on samples of the 1,400 bags of illegal sugar seized by police in
different operations revealed that some of the sugar contained contaminated water insoluble
b) Recently, Dr Matiang’i had inspected another 1,365 bags of illegal sugar recovered from
warehouses in Eastleigh, Ruiru and Nairobi’s Industrial Area.
c) Machines used to package and repackage the illegally imported sugar were also impounded
during the police operation.
Write a news item of not less than a half-page length. Pay attention to principles of good news
writing and structure the article professionally. (10 Marks)
