SEMESTER ONE EXAMINATION FOR THE CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
DIT 0104 : DESKTOP PUBLISHING
DATE: AUGUST 2013 TIME: 1½ HOURS
INSTRUCTIONS: ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS.
QUESTION (PRACTICAL)
You are required to design a document for JKUAT Kisii CBD which seeks to advertise a new wireless connectivity service offered within the campus. Conduct the following procedures:
(a) Create a folder on the desktop and give it your registration number as its name in this format: DIT-C006-NNNN-YY. [2 marks]
(b) Create the required document using Microsoft Publisher 2010. Deploy the ‘bounce’ template and then save the work in your folder as “JKUAT wireless”. [6 marks]
(c) Customize the business name and format this text so that it is italicized and underlined. Change the font face of the institution’s motto text box with a light blue color. [6 marks]
(d) Type in the information that you wish to communicate as follows: “The campus now provides wireless internet connectivity. All you need to do is simply ask the lab technician to assist you with the necessary configurations on your gadget. Enjoy surfing your favourite sites.” Format the font style to bold and of size 18. Apply drop cap style 6 to the paragraph. [8 marks]
(e) Insert a WordArt transform style to contain enticing information. Format the world art to be as appealing as possible to the target clients. [4 marks]
(f) Type in the contact information and align it to the center.

(g) Insert an appropriate clip art. Move it to the center of the document and resize it to an approximate size of 3” by 3”. Add a caption to the image. [6 marks]
(h) Change the page design to a dark blue scheme and the background to a solid background of 30% tint of main. [4 marks]
(i) Insert a 2×3 table and move it to the right place adjacent to your image. [2 marks]
(j) Design a logo and place it at the top-left corner. Insert a sun shape and position it at the top-right corner. Change the page orientation to landscape. [6 marks]
(k) Create a business card to accompany your publication that you have designed above. Assume that you are the computer lab technician in the school and fill in as many details as possible. Save this publication in your folder as ‘biz card’. [10 marks]
